| (via RUROUNI KENSHIN Character Promos And News On An International Release) I’ll just geek out for a bit here…. So, I’m pretty stoked for when this comes out on International Release. Rurouni Kenshin was so bad ass. Click the link for the character promos of Sanosuke, Karou, Kine, Megumi, Saitou and Kenshin himself! I wonder if Yahiko’s going to be in this..? | Fight For Space - Documentary Film Trailer (by FightForSpace) Support their kickstarter campaign here! Remember those days (or reading about those days) where we were excited to go exploring? When we weren’t afriad about our borders or about the squabbles we had with our neighbors? As a nation, the US used to be proud that we were the first in all things Space. But after taking the lead and being the first to successfully land on the moon, we’ve taken a back seat. To fight for a working space program and a stronger NASA, like minded people and scientists have teamed together to make a documentary to raise public awareness. Famous names like Neil DeGrasse Tyson, Robert Zubrin, Bill Nye and more all appear in Fight For Space. | 1343100134 | 1 | 8:22pm |

| ‘twas a good weekend. After finishing a rotation, and taking a butt hard test (family medicine covers just about everything, talk about hard to study for…) All these pent up weekends of chill days just came to a head. One surprise engagement, 3 birthdays celebrated, good fundraisers, good drinks, and great friends. Look! I even got an awesome EE hat out of it! (those are supposed to be bunny ears). My friend’s band (Environmental Encroachment!) was having a fundraiser for their east tour to NY and Boston and had these bunny hats going, someone took the good ones with leopard-print ears. These bunnies know how to rock out. Their music and community was just what the doctor ordered. Met up with one friend there, and just went with it the whole night, meeting everyone else and making new friends on the spot. Everyone who’s just open and chill, with the fact that absolutely no medical talk/school was had whatsoever. I’m actually not sure how much of the burner (ie burning man) community (and the like) mixes with the stereotypical medical student community, if at all. Anyways, the whole time was pretty badass. Cookout in the middle of the street, playing with fire, setting people on fire, marching band improv, and conversations about nothing with people named Tank, Squeak, Boobless (a guy), and other interesting names that totally rival my utterly mundane one. Rocking out the sousaphones! Carlos getting ready for the bunny sacrifice burning! Burn! David and his fire rings… Cale being awesome at poi (and later trombone and piccolo) Jodie and her fire fingers! In any case, as great as it is to hang and catch up with my med buddies (I love you guys) to complain and commiserate ith, it’s equally as important to have a group or two that you can not talk about anything work-related with. Or maybe it’s just me loving to meet new people. Exhausting weekend. It was a great mix of new, old, and comfortable. Oh, and Bears won. Heck yeah. | 1348454280 | 2 | 7:38pm |
| It’s your life — but only if you make it so. The standards by which you live must be your own standards, your own values, your own convictions in regard to what is right and wrong, what is true and false, what is important and what is trivial. When you adopt the standards and the values of someone else or a community or a pressure group, you surrender your own integrity. You become, to the extent of your surrender, less of a human being. | 1353794424 | 10 | 2:00pm |

| This is a remote forest in Western Poland, where 400 pine trees have grown with a curvature in their trunk structure and it turns out that no one really knows exactly what caused it. There are, however, a few theories:1) The main theory seems to suggest that this is the result of human interference. It is believed that this is a tree farm and the trees were forced to grow horizontally in their youth to make a carpenters life easier. The curved shape can be induced by laying a heavy object over a young tree stem. Phototropism will cause the stem beyond the heavy object to grow toward the sky, while the growing stem beneath and behind the heavy object will develop what is called morphogenetic compression wood - which ultimately makes the curve in the stem permanent. The problem with this theory is there is no evidence of a carpenter nearby and as the trees are relatively young (90 years) you would think someone would local would have some insight.2) The other theory suggests that the curved formation is simply a result of heavy snow load combined with a long spring melt. The trees become photosynthentically active as the angle of the sun increases during spring. With a snow load still on the stem during this period, compression wood forms as the trees grow; resulting in a permanent bend.Again, another problem comes from this theory; why did snow effect just these 400 trees, rather than the whole pine forest?3) A third expalnation could be soil creep; as colder temperatures pervade the area, the moisture in the soil freezes and expands, displacing the soil and anything not held fast in it (ie. saplings), then during the warmer part of the day, thaws and retracts. Over days, tiny saplings can be moved to angles ranging from just slightly off 90° to laying flat against the ground as if they had fallen. The saplings prefer very much to remain vertical, as their ability to be able to catch sunlight to keep photosynthesizing is dependent on it, so it will actually bend itself towards the sunlight, much like a sunflower turning its ‘head’ to face the sun. The result, these curved trunks of trees until they are old enough to grow straight up, and not be affected by soil creep. This phenomenon is most prevalent on hilly terrain, as the steepness of the slope causes for more drastic soil creep.Once again; this theory falls short; the area is not particularly hilly, especially not to the extent of causing such a dramatic curvature. Is this one of life’s mysteries?
